Global Initiative For Teachers & Students
GIFTS was founded by Athar Rafiq and Dr. Rukhsana Rahman of Gettysburg, PA, USA.
Having grown up in Germany, Nigeria and Pakistan, Athar has fond memories of his formative years and has a passion for education of children.
Rukhsana has seen the endless cycles of illiteracy and poverty, leading to poor health, increased mortality and morbidity in Zambia, Africa.
She and her husband have created GIFTS because they feel that every child needs to grow up with a love of learning and every ill man, woman and child deserves the care of a well-trained medical professional.
They are actively recruiting sources, materials and talented volunteers to help achieve a harmonious and peaceful future for children of all ages across the globe.
Our objective at GIFTS Foundation is to collect and distribute educational resources to elementary school children and graduate students all across the world.
Athar has an MBA from University of Baltimore, MD and an undergraduate degree in Engineering from City College of New York, NY.
Rukhsana is a board certified Radiologist practising at Gettysburg Hospital. Her undergraduate & medical doctor degree is from University of Zambia. Rukhsana is Vice President & Board Member of the local chapter of the YWCA, Gettysburg.
GIFTS has shipped approximately 1,000 books and journals to the medical school in Zambia and enrolled over 150 kindergartners in school in Pakistan, where this opportunity did not exist before.
